Diana Lili Pinck
“My works is the attempt to reflect the vibration, the mood, the energetic field of a particular moment. This is why I coined it Energy Art.” (Diana Lili Pinck)
I have always described my style as Energy Art, but I only recently I realised that the old masters might not only have described physical light, when they admonished their pupils to “paint the light” but precisely this inner energy that radiates from everything.
Diana Lili Pinck, a native New Yorker, spent a large part of her youth growing up in the City of Lucerne. The artist returned to Manhattan to study film and television at New York University (NYU) from where she received her BA. “My parents did not want me to study art, so film school was indeed my second choice. However it turned to be perfect, because learning how to tell a story in a single image, which is the language of film.
“In my paintings I try to transport the viewer to a different time and place, suspended in a moment of light.” (Diana Lili Pinck)
After training as an X-ray technologist at Bellevue Hospital NYC, Pinck worked at Mt. Sinai Hospital NYC. “Finally I had enough money to put myself through art school. So evenings and weekends were spent studying and painting at the oldest art academy of America, The Art Students League of New York (ASL)*. First awards and exhibitions followed soon, both in painting and photography. She married and became the mother of two sons. During this time, she mainly worked with pastel sticks. The artists striking portraits as well as her colourful flower- and landscape paintings were very well received. As her sons grew older, Pinck began working as a photographer and reporter for the luxury lifestyle magazine 25A. She quickly advanced to became its art and travel editor. Finally, at the end of in 2016, Pinck decided to return to her mothers home town Lucerne.
“My paintings are meant to calm and bring joy. I hope they can be like windows — both outward and inward to your soul.”
My mother loved art. Artists came and went in our home, and my mother often bought works from young creatives. She also regularly bought and sold paintings here, in the former Galerie Fischer, to make room for new ones. Back then, I secretly wished to one day be one of these artists.
“I am very happy and it is a great honour for me to exhibit at Galerie Haldenstrasse 19. With the Horizons exhibition a childhood dream is indeed coming true.”
*The ASL, which Pinck attended for many years, is the oldest art school in America. It was founded by artists for artists. The instructors at ASL are without exception successful artists and masters of their craft. Hundreds of former students have become world- renowned names in art world, such as Norman Rockwell and Georgia O’Keeffe to name only two.
